There is a growing movement in the US by Republicans and influential conservative media like Tucker Carlson on Fox News to end US support for Ukraine.

If the massive destruction and death in Ukraine is "winning", I would hate to see what losing what would look like.

There is no path for Ukraine to win this war. They should have negotiated with Russia to prevent the needless bloodshed.

Negotiation would have been the lessor of two evils, and it was always inevitable.

There will be a prisoner exchange unless Ukraine is willing to leave thousands of their soldiers remain in Russian hands.

Countries are seeing that nuclear weapons are a difference maker, and they want them.

In a nuclear war with Russia there would be no survivors.

The bomb blasts, radioactive fallout, and ensuing nuclear winter would kill everyone on the planet, regardless of where they live.

The US Pentagon is holding a press conference today. It sounds like the weapons needed have changed to more long range weapons, like the Russians are using.

Of course, the smart weapons cost a lot more, and the Ukrainians would need to be trained on them.

This war is likely to drag on. Russia is now using powerful bombs and missiles that do extensive collateral damage from a distance.

A satellite company provided photos over the weekend and they showed a Russian pressure bomb destroyed a bunch of huge reserve grain storage silos.

The company said they were showing some unclassified photos and the classified photos show a lot more damage.

The Russians are focusing on destroying the infrastructure and food terminals trying to force the Ukrainians to give up.

Tucker Carlson is giving the Fox News audience what they want to hear.

He has even said the "left wing" media are making up false stories to make Russia look bad and the photos of bodies is "fake".

It is all BS......but that is what 50% of Americans believe.

It is highly unlikely Putin would use nuclear weapons against NATO or the west. He would use them against Ukraine first and observe the reaction.

It would accomplish two goals for him. He would show the world he was willing to use nuclear weapons and would cause devastation in Ukraine.

A nuclear weapon explosion in Ukraine would send the west to the negotiating table, with or without Zelensky.

I support Canada giving humanitarian and medical aid, but not supplying weapons to Ukraine.

Since the Conservatives first started leading Canada into wars alongside the US, they haven't stop demanding our support.

PM Chretien had it right.

Tonight a lineup of Republicans are blasting the $65 billion in support for Ukraine. They say it should have been used to harden schools against shooters. Public support for Ukraine in the US is very soft. They don’t view it as their problem. Zelensky should settle with whatever he can get before the US pulls all support.

The Republicans hate supporting Ukraine and use the money issue to deflect from gun laws after these horrific shootings. They try to tie it all together in bizarre ways.

Every show on Fox News is the same rhetoric. Blame gun violence on the spending in Ukraine. In the fall they will control the Congress so you know what is coming.

Canada is basically a spectator in this.

The NRA won't agree to any changes.........none, and they heavily fund the Republican politicians.

Tucker Carlson started the day after the vote was passed and it has ramped up every since.

They now tie school shootings, drugs, immigration, baby formula, and Hunter Biden's laptop with the money.

It is ridiculous but that is what Fox News does well.

Fox News is the #1 news source for Republicans and Carlson is their #1 guy.

What is the common sense of an 18 year old legally buying 2 AR15 rifles and a revolver plus 350 rounds of ammo and body armour ? He going duck hunting ?

The gun proponents are blaming mental health. Other countries have the same issues but don’t have mass shootings all the time. They say their should be armed police in schools. There was and he shot 2 of them. It is the easy access to guns that is the problem.

I believe the ammo was 30 round cartridges and they found 7 of them empty in the school. He fired over 200 rounds. Think about that. Kids and 2 teachers trapped in a room with him and he fired more than 200 bullets at them.

The body armour is relevant because the first responders had revolvers and their bullets couldn’t penetrate his body armour. The shooter was eventually killed by a border guard with a rifle.

A cop showing up with a service revolver wouldn’t have a chance against

There was a school officer who tried to stop him from entering the school but failed. A school would need heavily armed police or military units to protect the kids or turn the schools into high security prisons.

But then….what about school yards, malls, parks, and everywhere else.

More guns isn’t a solution. They need to change a lot of gun laws like open carry and restrict ownership.

The US has to deal with this problem.

I agree.......it is a strange war with photo ops and celebrities dropping by.

I think every CNN television anchor and host rotated in and out of Ukraine early in the war.

Front line soldiers were asking where the weapons were and the Pentagon said it isn't their responsibility to distribute them and had no idea where they were.

Remember the pallets of US. cash that disappeared from the airport tarmac in Iraq ? They never did track down all that money.

Wasn't Paul Manafort and Rudy Guiliani mucking around in Ukraine and investigating Hunter Biden who was getting paid big dollars for no apparent reason?

I think some skepticism is healthy here. There are strange things going on.

When the Soviet Union broke up in 1991, there were thousands of former Soviet nuclear warheads, as well as hundreds of intercontinental ballistic missiles and bombers, left on Ukraine’s territory, which it decided to transfer to Russia. Ukraine never had an independent nuclear weapons arsenal, or control over these weapons, but agreed to remove former Soviet weapons stationed on its territory. In 1992, Ukraine signed the Lisbon Protocol and it joined the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty as a non-nuclear weapon state in 1994. The transfer of all nuclear material took some time, but by 2001, all nuclear weapons had been transferred to Russia to be dismantled and all launch silos decommissioned.

While some may ask if Russia would have invaded Ukraine if it still had Soviet nuclear weapons stationed on its territory, there is little convincing historical evidence that the possession or presence of nuclear weapons definitively prevents conflict, when many other variables may be considered, including the prohibition of the use of force under the UN Charter or even just luck. Even beyond this, it is not clear that Ukraine would have been able to take control of former Soviet nuclear weapons, technically or politically. What we do know is that the possession of nuclear weapons by Russia and the United States clearly has not prevented the threat of conflict between Russia and a U.S. ally or the potential humanitarian consequences of any conflict for civilians in the region.

Ukraine sought a guarantee from the US they would defend Ukraine's independence with military force.

The US refused to give such a guarantee, and Ukraine agreed to transfer the nuclear weapons anyways.

What a dumb statement. If the US "bombed" Moscow, it would have precipitated a nuclear war and everyone would be dead.
