What options are there for virtual credit cards online?
- Note this is specific to ONLINE purchases

I keep things simple, I have 2 credit cards for everything.

But I want one for small limits for online purchases that I have tighter monitoring and control. I use paypal when I can, but in cases where I can't I'd like a more secure option.

Any recommendations?

Other than when we travel, we use our no fee EQ MC for on line purchases.

The balance is usually close to zero unless we pre load it to cover an on line transaction.

No FX fee and it pays high interest IF we happen to have a balance (as we do when travelling). More like a combo debit card/credit card with spend limited to what you pre load w/ $500 day limit. We can use it at any ATM in Canada and EQ will re-imburse the bank ATM fee.

It would be great to use one that has a card number that can be reset / regenerated.

I'm also curious about these virtual credit cards. Meaning, not a classic physical card, but something virtual where the card number rotates.

Another option is to use a separate card with a low limit. That's what I've been using. Most banks now also let you turn OFF a card. So with a low limit, and the ability to turn it off when not in use, there's limited risk perhaps.
