More from McCarthy. He also said:

That knowledge opens up the possibility that you could prosecute [Trump] for aiding and abetting the intimidation of federal officials, which is a pretty serious crime.
(When asked if he expects to see Trump prosecuted by the DoJ)
I do now, yeah.

That's from Andrew McCarthy, a former prosecutor, a Republican who even wrote a book defending Trump. Here's the YouTube source/MSNBC and McCarthy's full interview is public record, aired on Fox News.

Trump was aware that the crowd was armed and violent, and he knew they meant to hurt government people.
Except they didn't end up finding all that many weapons, and while they broke laws and things it wasn't some massively violent bloodbath.

Your hyperbole would be funny if you weren't serious (or a capable troll)

"heavily armed"... uhh no

1 handgun out of thousands of people, isn't a heavily armed crowd.
No rifles, only 1 handgun not even 2 dozen weapons were found

I think you've drunk the DNC Kool-Aid

I notice that James won't address the lie that Trump tried to take over the presidential limo. Has she been charged yet?

We've been hearing about criminal charges against Trump for 5 years now. If they really had evidence of a crime they wouldn't have to put on a show trial, they would have a real trial.

Several secret service agents have confirmed the testimony about Trump and the Secret Service agents.

There is enough evidence to indict Trump for conspiracy to overthrow the government. What is AG Garland waiting for ?

The presidential limo is separated by a partition from the front, what was alleged is physically impossible. But still no charges against her for lying under oath?

Does sags still think this really happened?

The DoJ takes a long time to carefully build up cases, with enough evidence, to assure a very high % chance of successful conviction. Federal cases are not done lightly, so there's lots of prep work. When they do prosecute someone, they are almost certain to successfully convict.

In the case of the traitor Trump, it's obviously very complicated as this is a first in history. It's the first time a US president attempted to overthrow the government and seize power illegal.

There's also the concern about the jury. As we can see from some of the people at CMF, there are cult members out there who think this kind of thing, a violent overthrow of government, is OK. What kind of jury ends up hearing Trump's trial? The far-right media has brainwashed a huge number of Americans and has normalized absolutely shocking anti-democratic, anti-American values.

Maybe the US military should put Trump on trial for conspiracy to commit treason and dereliction of duty. He is the commander in chief.

One thing they can't do......is let him and his minions get away with it, or there will be a "next time".

There is a reason they used to execute traitors.

The founding of the country was their first attempt to overthrow the government and seize power illegally.

You keep saying that yet they're running a show trial with people who fabricate stories. I'm pretty sure if they had real evidence of Trump crimes they would prosecute those instead of being forced to find people to lie under oath.

By the way, the Russia hoax was proven in court to be a complete fabrication, paid for by Hillary. That's the real crime

Doesn't The President get the shield dropped at his wish?
If so, why didn't the driver take the stand and confirm that? Probably because she lied and her story would fall apart.

Some of you will believe anything that's fed to you in spite of all evidence against it....Trump tried to take over the limo, Jussie Smollet, Russia collusion, drinking bleach, etc. At some point most people would realize they're being duped instead of doubling down time and time again.

It's been well over a week. Did the show trial interview the secret service driver that was allegedly choked by Trump when he tried to take over the presidential limo?

If they haven't interviewed him under oath, why not?

The committee schedule is constantly interrupted as more Trump and White House insiders are coming forward to testify under oath.

Yesterday, White House lawyer and others testified about meetings with Trump, where he was told that he had lost the election. There was a battle in the White House between those who told Trump to accept that he had lost the election, and advised against the actions advocated by others that Trump was listening to.

Republicans have already shifted away from the "stolen election" mantra........to Trump was misled by the "crazies" he had surrounded himself with.

They now blame Rudy Guiliani, Sidney Powell, and some politicians for giving Trump bad advice, so the riot on the Capital is all their fault.

The Republicans are no longer denying it was a riot. They no longer defend the participants. They blame bad advice from "the crazies"...as they refer to them.

... remember the Dump has (recently) boasted "what? you think they gonna drag me off from Mar-go-lo?" I'm sure plenty would like to see fire-works go with that show.

Trump should be arrested and charged, but the fear is that a civil war would break out in the US if he was taken to trial.

Trump is an old man with health issues, so he likely won't be alive long enough to complete a trial and go through all the appeal courts.........so why bother ?

It looks like Florida governor Ron DeSantis will challenge Trump for the nomination, and would likely win. He is polling ahead of Trump in many US states.

Meh, even CBC noticed that committee is not showing anything that would have any chance of ever standing in court.
FFS, they hired a NBC TV producer to put on the reality TV show and refused to do the hearings live - they have them pre-recorded and then TV producer cuts them to make the reality TV show.
The committee is nothing but 'Love Island' of politics
