The Trump phenomena reveals how far "off the rails" the US government has become.

The GOP may well win the midterm elections, just because of how their system is set up.

I think Biden and the Democrats are making a big mistake by not eliminating the filibuster and not expanding the Supreme Court.

They are too worried about what the "other side" would do if they win, but that misses the whole point of ensuring they don't win.

Unless Biden gets legislation passed and balances the highest court, moderates will give up and stay home during elections.

Hey Joe........nice guys become floor mats for the not so nice guys.

If Trump were to somehow win the GOP nomination, I think there would be a third party set up by moderate conservatives to run in the next election.

They wouldn't win the election, but would draw enough support away from Trump that he couldn't win.

Trudeau just won his third election, based on his track record for the past 6 years in office.

Trump was booted out after one term and 4 years in office, based on his track record.

People vote in their own self interest and for leaders who align with their personal views.

So it appears to me that Americans weren't happy with what Trump accomplished, while Canadians continue to be happy with the progress under the leadership of Trudeau.

There is nothing that humbles the critics faster than continuing to win.

Contrary to what some may preach, Canadians know exactly what they want.

It looks to me like the voters decided all the whining and complaints were irrelevant.

In the past 3 elections the Conservatives tried to win by throwing mud and every time they failed.

They need to come up with a better plan if they hope to avoid losing 4 elections in a row.

If the goal is a functional government, then Canada has the best democratic system.

Trudeau is the leader of the Liberal government elected by the people. They have the mandate from the people to make all the decisions.

When the PMO announces that Trudeau will make a public announcement, all the media attend.

When Andrew Scheer announced he would be holding a press conference........1 reporter showed up.

The worst day in government is better than the best day in opposition.

The problem with the Swiss model is self evident in their inability to address major issues, such as a myriad of environmental concerns.

A decentralized government creates a NIMBY quagmire, where nothing is accomplished on national issues.

Canada ranks among the top countries politically, without all the inherent problems of de-centralized government.

Think about how difficult it is to build a pipeline today across a few Provincial boundaries, and extrapolate that over dozens of local authorities.

Canada's land mass is too large and the population too spread apart for a fully de-centralized government approach.

De-centralized governments prioritize local issues, which works in a tiny country like Switzerland.

But such a political system would never work in a country as large and diverse as Canada.

Switzerland fits into Southwestern Ontario.

Switzerland is approximately 41,277 sq km, while Canada is approximately 9,984,670 sq km, making Canada 24,089% larger than Switzerland. Meanwhile, the population of Switzerland is ~8.4 million people (29.3 million more people live in Canada.

Zoom out and see how insignificant that is in land mass.

Interesting tidbit of Canadian history.

William McKenzie King is the longest serving PM in Canadian history at 21 years and 154 days.

Pierre Trudeau is the 3rd longest serving PM at 15 years and 164 days.

Justin Trudeau is the 10th longest serving PM at 5 years and 343 days.

As of today, the Trudeau father/son combination has served 20 years and 507 days.......or 21 years and 155 days by my calculations.

That means that today marks the date the Trudeau family makes history and sets the new record.

It looks like you found yourself a boogeyman in Trudeau.

It is pure nonsense to compare the complex machinations involved with a minority government during a pandemic and the rise of Hitler using his violent Nazi organization to threaten and coerce support.

I suggest you do some research on the rise of Hitler. Netflix produced a series on dictators, and the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich is a very interesting record of history.

Seriously, you must have missed all the phone calls from Trump to State Republicans imploring them to cancel votes and appoint a slate of electors who wouldn't follow the law. You must have missed the meetings with VP Pence and calls for him to refuse to accept the electoral vote results.

You must not have heard Republican Senator Lindsey Graham making calls to State legislators.

What about the idiotic Trump lawyers Rudy Giuliani and "release the Kraken" Sydney Powell........in court arguing to overturn elections ?

You even missed the Giuliani press conference behind the strip club in a run down strip mall.

What do you think the January 6 capital riot was about ?

Where you been, Mr. Matt ?

It seems like just yesterday that Don Jr. was touted to replace his dad as the GOP nominee for President.

I think it demonstrates how badly the Trump business is doing these days.

Ivanka's designer clothing is found in bargain bins and Don Junior is hawking tasteless t-shirts.

Baldwin may be fair game for mocking Trump on Saturday Night Live, but it could be done in a tasteful way.

Alas, good taste or judgment has never been a Trump family strength.
