Hi there, a few weeks ago I asked the forum if they had any experience with the MBNA smart cash back card. The thread is here:

Smart Cash Platinum Plus

Well, due to procrastination i never ended up getting the card. Well, last night I got a call from a company that offers cards for MBNA (i guess they are contracted out to off the mbna cards over the phone). The offer was for this card:

MBNA PremierRewards® Platinum Plus® MasterCard

The offer sounded good, and they were ready to mail a card to me. Well I asked that I first be sent the terms and conditions of the card in writing for my review. I indicated that I would review the TOCs and contact them again if I was interested.

Well, the person on the phone politely refused. Am I missing something? Why would they refuse a simple request like that? Is the salesperson operating on a commission based compensation? Would they lose their commission if I decided to apply for the card through correspondence rather than over the phone? I just thought my request was pretty reasonable and couldn't understand why it would be refused.

After looking the card over, it looks rather interesting. Too bad they wouldn't mail me an application, I may just apply online.

Hey there, thats what I don't understand.

The company already had all my personal info. They knew i was an existing customer of MBNA (I have a credit card with them already), they new my phone number and address etc....

Just seemed weird that they would only accept an application over the phone, unless the company only got paid if I applied directly with them.

Not always true.
Sometimes the right hand doesn't talk to the left, or vice versa.
I have often been called by my credit card issuer offering me the exact same card that I already have, and have had for several years.
I believe they outsource this type of stuff and the contracted company doesn't have all the information, or maybe no information at all.

They are most likely a contracted third-party, possibly outsourced abroad.
I can often tell by artificially put-on accents.

Yes they are being paid extra for approved apps, so no sending the info out does them no good. However, that doesn't mean applying over the phone so some call centre guy gets a few bucks is the best way to do things.
