I was just wondering if it is illegal for my employer to be holding back my RRSP contributions. Each one of my paychecks, it is deducted from my paycheck (5% me and %5 match by the company 10% total) and he is supposed to add the amounts to my RRSP.

He never puts the money into the RRSP for any employees when we get a paycheck, and at the moment he is 4 paychecks behind. Is he legally allowed to keep my money?

ps. this information wont be used as legal advice. I am just wondering if infact it is, so I can atleast look further into it if that is the case.

Thanks in advance.

My employer is usually behind by about 7 to 10 days.
4 months sounds like a lot.
Before initiating any legal action, call the group RRSP provider and find out when the data feed comes in.
The delay could be on the financial institution side for some reason - you won't know until you call.
Next, drop a friendly email to your payroll dept. and ask about this.

Can you contact the company that manages the RRSP funds directly and ask them if your employer is making their portion of the contributions as agreed?
