Now as for this forum, even if you have only $350k to invest, you can make $50k annually & easily, to add to whatever you’ve accumulated to be able to retire at 53!
@JKJ: Welcome to the dialogue and discussion. The demographics here span all ages but likely more heavily concentrated in the accumulation journey than some forums. That said, there definitely is a cohort of retirees here, including 70+ year old geezers like myself, that retired 15 or more years ago. There many ways to enjoy retirement and manage the portfolio. The key is to find the right balance for you.
Wow, I was planning on that to at age 55 but decided I needed to keep doing something so I am still going strong at work @60 Good luck, I hope it works nicely for you and have fun.
... nothing wrong with that. Retirement these days for "some folks" doesn't mean you stop working. You work when you want, how you want and wherever you want. Just not being a slave to someone else. Besides, the great resignation is trending.
I'm not sure what you're looking for, with regard to other's experience. Much of it seems to be something everyone has to go through on their own.
For me, retiring required quite a bit of courage. It would be hard to describe to someone what the concern is, as I am very well taken care of. The thing is, I don't want to just exist until I die. I want to have a somewhat meaningful life that I can feel good about. My career had some really sucky aspects, like everyone's, but it was also surprisingly fulfilling. I enjoyed the last few years quite well. Retirement is a blank sheet where you have to find your own meaning.
A good friend of mine has sort of retired. He didn't shut down his business but he laid off what was left of his staff, hasn't been there in months, and doesn't answer the phone. Instead, he follows his passion which is dog rescue. If his business was publicly listed, it would be an ideal candidate to short but he could care less. lol!

I wrote about this awhile back. The time to commence your Retirement years, is decades before you start it! I’d always thought ‘concern’ or ‘courage’ was from a long ago era, where day lifer Steelworkers, accustomed to their daily 9 to 5 existence, had never, ever conjured up a future alternative! And died shortly thereafter in misery because of it!
Almost 8 years in, I consider Retirement the best job I’ve ever had, an 11 out of 10. The pre primer is this:
the time to start planning life after retirement is in your 40s.If your entire life has been spent at the office/ factory without exterior pursuits, you are a dead man walking!
Here are some of my highlights for retirees-to-be to develop their lives outside work:
Take on generational duties, including parenting and grandparenting
Play, follow and watch sports
Travel near and far, to places of your own ancestral inheritance and any others you fancy
Have intelligent and interesting friends outside work that you spend time with in all manner of pursuits, across the seasons
Get to know your neighbours and their kids- especially converse with little kids! They love it and you will get their tremendous positive insights on life!
Volunteer anywhere doing anything you believe appropriate.
Relying on work to substantiate your existence gives you a deck chair on the ship of fools.
You work to live, not the reverse.
I could use an extra $1500/day. It would help us out quite a bit and ease the worry of our money running out.
This idea is also heaven sent for my Mom who is running out of money and will soon lose her apartment. She can use it to make a quick $25k by the 15th and then live on $1500 per day after that.
I will look into this day trading. Thank you, kilbarry20. This is really appreciated.
I use the following: the top 4 Banks, VFV, ZSP, BCE, ATD and my current fav- Magna (MG).
Since last August, made about 15 trades for a profit of $6k.
You need all the correct variables- a huge, profitable corporation, with a decent dividend. One that you can play at least 8x a year during both the Quarterly Dividends as well as Financial Quarterly Reports. And it has the best ingredient of all- constant action, normally rising or falling $2-3 per day. Why? Dunno. It certainly isn’t because they’ve found missing supplies or suppliers of chips!
Retirement (or post financial independence) is what one wants it to be, whether a life of leisure, travel, sports, volunteering, or continued career interests with remuneration. I've learned not to be judgemental on what it is that anyone chooses to do. Motivated to get up each morning is a heck of a good start.
I've noticed that cryptocurrency goes up and down a lot more than stocks. I'm going to adapt my system to crypto for gains that will far outstrip day trading of stocks.
Also, I have an idea for my own block chain: MagicCoin. With MagicCoin, every new coin that is mined will be worth half of what the previous coin was worth. The sooner you get in, the more you make. With this system, there will be no need to wait days or even weeks to double your money.
With MagicCoin, there will be absolutely no excuse for anyone to live in poverty, ever again. If someone wishes to be poor, it will be their own choice.
I called my Mom last night and started the process of talking her into taking her driving exam to get her license back. She said she wasn't interested but she will be, once she sees the new AMG I am getting her. Hopefully, we can find parking reasonably close to the care home. I won't black out the windows until she has cataract surgery, after the pandemic is done.
TD and BMO are way up this morning, as expected, but BCE is down. Overall, I am up of course but how long will I have to wait for the government to pump money into BCE so I can make money on it? This thing desperately needs a bail out. Will that happen by lunch?
I'm new to day trading so any help is appreciated.
How far is the government going to let this go before they do something? I'm just barely making money, today.
This is ridiculous.
