Clearly motorized and vehicles will be moving to EV technology. Big issue is finding the necessary materials and seems like an obvious investment opportunity if one can invest is the right miners. Is anyone investing in this sector? if so what is their strategy.

I added First Quantum based on this strategy . Other then some noise out of Argentina that shook up the market for one day this strategy seems to be working. Besides I put an order for an EV and I will stop resisting change.
Just very carful with Lithium ion batteries, There are sodium ion batteries now, It was loser by Lithium ion batteries in 2003, but it comes back strong now, it costs about 30% to 60% as Lithium ion batteries. it works at wider temperature range and can charge in 15 [email protected]% capacitive.
All battery materials are heading up. Sodium ion may be coming, but it will take a long time for them to scale to challenge Lithium ion.

what is the key raw materials for sodium ion ?
CATL made a new Lithium ion batteries for Telsa, 600+ miles (1000KM) and 10 min charge @80%, CATL will bring a sodium-ion based battery to market by 2023

Sodium Ion Battery Cathode Material Na-NMC 111 Na-LiNiMnCoO2 Powder
Here is a fairly digestible breakdown of sodium ion battery chemistry.

It's a promising technology, but clearly lithium ion won't be disrupted by it in the short or medium term.

Take Chinese EV range claims with a grain of salt. Some are wildly optimistic vs EPA test cycle. And ludicrous ranges are just sensationalist. Anything beyond a real world range of 400-500km is just needlessly driving up the cost and weight of the vehicle. One could make a car with a 2000km range, but it would be very expensive, heavy, handle poorly and have poor cabin space and payload capacity.
