There has been a lot of coverage on this recently.
Apparently, there is a lobby group within Iceland that is pushing for this.
One economist from the university was on the Lang O'Leary show a few weeks ago and he seemed to be in favor of it.
I doubt it will happen, though.

At the present time, Icelanders may feel so but once their economy gets better and there is some form of long-term direction/stability, they will probably want to move away from the CAD and go back to the Krona (or create a new one)

From Canada's perspective, it is a prestige thing more than anything else.

I have always wanted to go to Iceland, I made it to Greenland last year and it was stunning. Well worth the trip!
Before Iceland got in trouble like the rest of the world, there were charter tours offering weekly shopping trips to St. John's and Halifax. Planes full of tourist arrived weekly and spend several thousand dollars each, and that would be repeated the next week . . . still happens, but a little less often. Just my take on why they want the CDN$ :encouragement:
