The industrial revolution generally increased productivity at the expense of faster environmental degradation.
The internet revolution did not gove proportionately higher productivity. It did give everyone a chance to look at cute cat pictures and 'stay in touch' with everyone they even once periperally knew.
And it fuelled environmental degradation; no longer did you buy a quality product and own it for 30 years and fix it along the way. Now you buy a new one every few years at the longest.
