Around 5 years ago a good friend told us about a start up company based in Calgary that had the potential to be the big winner we all dream about. It went against our investing style and we were helping a son buy his first house at the time. We passed although 5 of our friends invested various amounts. It was a non topic when we got together and I just assumed that they discussed it when we were not around if at all. Noone invested their life savings (I think). Anyway we were out with one couple last week and he mentioned he was involved in a coup last week. The former premier of Alberta was involved. So out of curiosity I googled the company and was amazed at what I learned. It is Tielhard and is involved in a law suit involving intellectual property. If you are interested in the pitfalls of speculative investing take a look at this one. Having said that I'm sorry I didn't put down a few thousand dollars on this one and still might if I get an opportunity.
