Please let me know what recourse I have after I joined Questrade and found out that they would not pay the transfer of my account, as promised. I am a retired senior and cannot afford to loose money in such a stupid way. (It's a good lesson however!)

Michel, try contacting Emil: evojkollari[at]questrade.com, he usually handles all new client issues.
I was about to switch to Questrade due to FrugalTrader's recommendation. I even setup an account with them. Sent in all my paper work and initial $5 cheque.

I tried calling them 3 times to ask a few questions why all account are margin and was kept on hold for more than 10 minutes each time. I had to get back to work. I still haven't spoke with anyone at Questrade.

It seems like the only people giving them a good rating are people on their referral program. It's cool. People got to make money somehow.

Needless to say, I am going to stick with my current discount broker and cut my sunk cost at $5.

Yes. I asked the same question (about margin) and asked if they could disable the margin, but they said it could not be done.

Even their TFSA account is margin (even though they claim otherwise!)
Also try Lynn Suderman, Communications Manager at Questrade. Her e-mail is lsuderman*no spam*@questrade.com (remove the '*no spam*).
That such a simple customer service issue has to be escalated to management is not very encouraging.
I have an RRSP acc't with Questrade and it isn't on margin. So I'm not sure what you're talking about.

Plus, the platform fees are clearly posted on their fees page, including the info on trade quantities to get it for free.

I haven't had any serious issues with questrade in the last 2 years being with them.

Biggest complaint was that I was told by one rep I could fax the DRIP from in, but it had to be mailed in.

I usually email all my questions, and get an answer in about a day.
I've got a TFSA with them and my buying power is 1:1 (ie: no margin)

That's what it says on mine, but I can *actually* spend more than I have and get negative cash value. I'll try writing them to see if this can be fixed.

Thans CC for the advice. I tried e-mailing her, but I still got a boiler-plate message, saying that they cannot remove the margin. This seems to apply to both the regular stock account and the TFSA account.
Please, beware of Questrade!
Recently, I established with them TFSA account and send 5,000 CAD.
Next day after unsatisfactory conversation with customer service, I requested close account and send my money back to my bank account.
And I can’t get my money back!
They use customer's money as free loan and make any excuse do not return money.
Save your time and money and RUN from this company. It is going to end badly.

Okay, for the other people that do have an account with Questrade, how do you get your money out from the account when you need it? Irina, what response did you get from them when you asked for your money back? I find it hard to believe that they just said 'no'. Is there a waiting period? What options do you have for transfering money out of the account?
Questrade sounds like a nightmare to deal with. All that aggravation just to save a little bit on trading commissions:confused:?
