Default Twitter: Killer Ap or Frivolous Time-Waster?

Since I suggested a non-financial forum, let me kick this one off with a thread about Twitter, which appears to have hit the tipping point in the last four weeks -- so much so it seems to be overloaded. I actually heard about this forum first from a few Twitter posts of some of the founders of this forum so I can attest to its utility.

On the other hand, do we really care that so-and-so is eating Special K for breakfast this morning, or applying lipstick at the stoplight?

I think it's somewhere in the middle. There is a lot of noise from Internet marketers but I like being part of the personal finance circle and having all of the information come to me instead of having to look for it.

I think for a lot of internet marketers, it's a way of building another list that can potentially be monetized in the future.

I think Twitter has exciting possibilities as a micro-blogging platform, especially when you want to make a quick short post on breaking news.

That said, I had to un-follow some of the constant twitterers because I simply couldn't keep up with their output!

I agree with CC that there are some that just post everything on twitter, but it seems to be a great news/blog resource. I have only been on it for about 2 weeks, but so far I find it a good news resource. That's why I think if the google deal works out it can be a good addition, but how to monetize it?

I joined Twitter pretty late in the game - last August (2008). For a long time I didn't really get what the point was, but soon discovered what a great tool it is for networking and have really enjoyed interacting with people on it. I've gotten to know quite a few bloggers from my niche as well as other people who have somehow found me there.

Interesting piece on how early Twitter adopters are leaving as it becomes more "corporatized." But the real insights in the piece are about how online relationships are real and that when we abandon a web-based community -- for whatever reason -- these online friends are often lost.

I haven't really gotten involved with Twitter - I signed up a couple of years ago but just don't have the time. Recently I went back on briefly to check something I had read about and within seconds several people (strangers) decided to follow me. That made me feel a little creeped out so think I'll just stick to Facebook where I am still a relative newbie but at least I'm just connecting with people I know....and like.

A little off topic but how do the bloggers here get their blog title and link to appear below their posts. I have a financial blog and would like to do the same. Thanks for any help in advance.
